The Local Government Association has updated the Burgundy Book, a handbook outlining the conditions of service for school teachers in England and Wales:
- Sick leave: The new edition of the Burgundy Book clarifies that teachers are entitled to sick leave for mental health conditions, as well as physical health conditions. This is a significant change, as it reflects the growing recognition of the importance of mental health in the workplace.
- Maternity leave: The new edition of the Burgundy Book clarifies that teachers who are pregnant or who have recently given birth are entitled to additional leave, such as time off for antenatal appointments and postnatal care. - Professional standards: The new edition of the Burgundy Book includes a new section on professional standards. This new section sets out the standards of conduct that are expected of teachers.
