The Government has confirmed the new National Minimum Wage (NMW) and National Living Wage (NLW) rates, effective from 1 April 2026:
| Rate | 2025–26 | 2026–27 | Increase |
|---|---|---|---|
| NLW (21+) | £12.21 | £12.71 | 4.1% |
| 18–20-year-olds | £10.00 | £10.85 | 8.5% |
| 16–17-year-olds | £7.55 | £8.00 | 6% |
| Apprentice rate | £7.55 | £8.00 | 6% |
| Accommodation offset | £10.66 | £11.10 | 4.1% |
What this means for employers
-
A full-time worker (37.5 hours per week) on NLW will see an annual gross pay increase of around £977.
-
The 18–20 rate is moving closer to the adult rate as part of the Government’s plan to eventually introduce a single adult rate.
-
Some concerns have been raised about the potential impact on youth employment.
Baroness Philippa Stroud, Chair of the Low Pay Commission, said the recommendations are based on careful analysis and negotiation, balancing the Government’s ambitions with protecting the economy and labour market.
